The mainstream news media did destroy itself by lack of journalistic standards, biased reporting with special agendas and not proper fact checking. Traditional media had jumped the shark a long time ago, according my view. Social media is developing the news landscape to a new level, but you still have to do background checking, check your premises when you read the content, go to the original source, etc.
