However, it would never have happened had the CEO not been passionate about wikis, shared workspaces, and video conferencing. So I feel buy-in from the top can hugely influence the success of bringing people together internally, and actively collaborating. The benefits are as you mention in your article.
Ironically, there were still a few die hards that just had to share everything by emailing back and forth, and their idea of collaboration was to use the "reply all" button in their email account!
