Hi Cate,

I assume we're talking here about paying for ads and sponsored stories and not paying one of these sites that promises you a certain number of likes on your page. Because the second would be a definite violation of Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities and would likely get your site penalized. Just think we need to be very clear about the advice we're putting out there.

Agreed, Heather. This author talks about promoted posts specifically and stresses the importance of follower engagement and building relationships a number of times throughout the piece, so we're definitely not talking about buying fake likes from a spammy service.
