How often should you bring in outside expertise? Basically the answer must be as often as it is needed. What value will that expertise bring to your company? What is the problem which you are trying to solve costing your company? How do accurately assess the costs and value?

This is a really important point. It is way too easy to get hung up on costs without making a proper assessment of value, especicially when things are tight.
