I recently the following email to my staff. It was accompanied by the article I wrote on Thanking Our Clients.

Dear Team: As you've heard me say in the past, we need to thank our lucky stars for our friends, family, our business colleagues and “especially” our advertisers.

When you get back to your desks today, start calling those you do business with to let them know how much you appreciated their support in 2008 and that no matter the business climate, you will be there for them, as will your respective publications —“and” our entire suite of publications.

Take action! Refresh! Be the smartest executive you can be! Do it for you, for our company and for our loyal advertisers—many of whom have been with us through thick and thin. We need to acknowledge and celebrate their commitment to our continued success.

We bring professionalism, courtesy, knowledge, integrity, trust and experience to the marketplace—and it is time to celebrate these qualities with our business partners.

2009 is the time to aim higher, reach farther and dream bigger. To approach tomorrow with confidence and daring. Take chances. As we move to become a “one-stop-marketing/promotion/advertising—shop” for our advertisers, it is essential to leverage our footprint in unique space in order to drive genuine value creation.

Now is the time to take a look back at what you've achieved 2008 and what you've learned from your experiences — good and bad. Although it's hard to think of it at the time — there's no such thing as failure, merely an opportunity to learn from our mistakes.

10,0000 hours—according to experts that's how long it takes to become a world-class expert or to excel in a particular field. Of course it doesn't guarantee that you WILL become an expert in that time but if you don't put in the hours you won't make it. It is time to hit the phones, hit the streets or hit the keyboard. Which ever mode of communication you choose to engage today—begin investing time in your success!
