Every Small Business Has A Bad Week

I know from experience that everyone, including small business owners, have bad days. But whole weeks? It seems like weeks should be too long to be bad. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that weeks are not too long to be all bad.

It is OK to have a bad week! I have had several bad weeks during my 10 years of blogging! ;) But I have had several good week too... :)

Every business has a bad hair week! But you know what I took from this article is looking for the reason for why your week was bad. I know a lot of businesses who would acknowledge it, complain about it, worry about it but not really realise that it wasn't personal to their business, it was just a seasonality.

So you advice is great for small business owners - if they experience a bad day, fair enough. If they experience a bad week, then it's time to find out why..and see what, if anything, they can do about it.

This is so true. There can be many factors for a day or week to be bad and sometimes just something small will start the downward spiral. Being positive always helps stave off the bad times but that can be tiring all the time. And like you say there can often be outside circumstances that make that week bad for you.

If I were you I'd look at the positive side of it and realise it was a good week to be away - get the diary out for next year :) Thanks for sharing on Bizsugar.com

This is so true... except staying level-headed when business slows down "out of the blue" for a whole week is often easier said than done. It can be an even bigger problem when resources are tight.

One method for easing the jitters is to either have a secondary source of income to fall back on or set up a business "emergency fund." Doing so will help take off the pressure and allow you to see what is happening more objectively.

On a related note, we forecast web traffic seasonality with Google Trends. It's a remarkably accurate tool as long as you are in an industry that gets a decent volume of traffic. I've not found it overly useful for predicting short term cyclic behavior (i.e. predicting next week's traffic compared to this week), but it's great for addressing seasonal lows and highs.

Thanks Todd, that is a great point. I had heard of using Google Trends, but didn't think about using it to figure my bad week. I will have to keep that in mind the next time I have a bad week.
