The following are ten basic tips to run an effective meeting that will keep your attendees engaged and you confident that you didn’t just waste an hour of their lives.

1. Define goals and set an agenda. The first step to becoming the meeting leader you want to be is to create a meeting agenda – even for recurring or informal meetings. When you make an agenda, you’re forced to decide which points are the most crucial. And when you distribute the agenda to attendees, you give them the chance to either prepare for the meeting or decide not to go.
