Much depends on the company. If a company is backed by professional investors(not friends and family) then a controller and CFO will be brought on board sooner. Otherwise, it could be beyond the $10m before controller comes into the company. The # of customers, size of each transaction, types of customer contracts, and so on play a part in deciding when.

I wonder if one of you might be able to answer at what point or at what size do you think a small business needs to start worrying about dedicating employees exclusively to these roles? It would be great if one of you could share some thoughts on this in the comment section of BizSugar. I think many of our members struggle with when to implement certain levels of leadership organization as they grow.
