Definitely agree with you that blogging has become one of those things where again less is more (provided that what you do publish is quality.)

I've always been an advocate of blogging when an idea strikes rather than adhering firmly to a schedule. Having to post can be exhausting and too much pressure; waiting for ideas to strike and then writing makes for a much more relaxing time...and I believe, makes for a higher quality blog.
