Hi Heather. In all truth I have only used this technique once where I put it on an old post. I only just learned about this myself, so I haven't measured how successful it is. Twitter should alert you every time someone shares using this method as you can put your twitter ID in the tweet for them. This should show you if anything is happening. I'll come back when I know any more!
