Be a customer for a day. If you don’t act like one of your own customers once in a while, you’re missing a great opportunity to see how your company and customer service looks from the outside.

Great post. It reminds me a lot of King Hussein of Jordan who if you Google "King Hussein Disguise Incognito" you will see has been known to dress up in disguises and wander around his kingdom to see what really goes on and to guage the puls of the nation and his people. You are 100% right that unnanounced visits and putting yourself in the place of the consumer are the only ways to get a real look and avoid the artificiality of pre-announced "surprise" visits. Thanks for a great read!

Great post...and idea. I think the hard thing about this can sometimes be that some business owners (gulp) don't really use their own products or services. Perhaps they have become out of touch with what makes their business valuable to customers?
