This is a touchy subject, since there are factions out there on the interwebs who will state unequivocally that you should never, ever pay for, say, Facebook Page Likes. They say that it’s unethical and a waste of a money and nothing but a vanity metric. Oh, if only it were that simple.

Mike: Thanks for your input. I have to test it out at some point in time. Could you compare the price of advertising on Twitter, compared with Facebook?

Hi Martin, Facebook has been the better option for us, especially for driving leads and sales, both in terms of number of conversions and price per conversion.

Mike: Thanks for your reply! Have you tested to get new followers on Twitter, by paying for a sponsored tweet? I have been struggling with Twitter's follow limit rule, and I wanted to investigate if it could be worth to acquire new follower this way.

We are using Twitter's advertising features, but only for tweet engagement and conversions. As a side-effect, we are also gaining new followers with these campaigns. I don't have any experience with the effectiveness of a follower campaign so far. You'd have to test it with a small daily budget and see how it works out for you.

Mike: You have written a thoughtful post on this "touchy" topic. I am going the organic way of getting new social media followers.

Thanks for your kind words! The organic way is definitely the best, it just takes longer.
