freelancer.com is a good site for some and worthless for others, unfortunately. It is inherent in the bidding system. When you have people in the Third world willing to work for a few dollars an hour, workers used to a much higher salary will get underbid every time.

Correct. Still for smaller jobs looks to be ok as the cost of having an inhouse resource for let's say designing just a banner it's always going to be bigger. Also, might be interesting if you need an open system to generate ideas. An inhouse designer is unlikely to be able to generate 10 different designs, but you can get them from 10 different designers on freelancer.com
