Hi Rochelle.

I worked at a small community hospital in NE Ohio from '00-'08. Maybe in '06 HR passed out more stuff for everyone to sign off on (including not using a tornado as a flimsy excuse not to drive in to work). One was about any employee, VP/director/manager/supervisor, or medical staff member humiliating any other employee for any reason. Everyone including the attending physicians (who are not employees at all, but had privileges) had to sign-off on it. But the reality was that it would only be enforced on the lower levels. There was no way a VP or physician was going to be held accountable for going off on a lower level employee. After we were taken over by a giant local hospital group, the whole HR manual was set up that way. I read up to page *2*, when it was plainly stated that the hospital reserved the right to decide how & when (and with whom) to enforce all the rules we signed-off on. I stopped reading there (though I'd read all of the previous management's manual) - what's the point: just sign-off and wait to see what whims they follow as they decide issues that come up. If they like you, you get special treatment, if not - no.

Duncan,

Bullying is another reason I wish to stay in college for the next few years. Maybe by the time I get in the work force things will change?

I'm very impressed by the site. It seems like a great resource for anyone who thinks that being bullied is just part of the job and that there is no recourse. Articles, research, legislation, advice and services. This is a serious network :)

Nice post Rochelle Rochelle,

Rivkah
