When Suranga Chandratillake created video search engine blinkx he surely can't have imagined that four years later the business would be listed on the London Stock Exchange and posting a $4.5m (£2.85m) gross profit for the first six months to September 2008.
The 106% gross profit increase on the previous half-year is a sign that blinkx is set to continue impressing on the market, irrespective of a worldwide recession. That view may need to be revisited later in 2009 but what is irrefutable is that blinkx is in a growing market. Between June 2007 and July 2008 traffic on the site grew 681%.
