We all know the products they give away, and the ones purchased by family and friends don’t count. I'm old enough to remember the B+W Tonight Shows w/Johnny out of New York. Ed used to do "live" commercials for Alpo - he'd open the can into a bowl obliquely, release the dog, and the dog would dive in immediately. Then the trick was discovered - they put steak under the dog food first.
