It sounds like you picked up an important aspect to the women-centric groups. I remember a conversation at a networking event in which he told me that I wasn't "really in business" because I had small children. This is easy to say when you are not expected to be the primary caretaker of a family.
Are these expectations fair? Absolutely not! Is it fair to assume that a woman will not perform and compete at the highest levels because she might have personal obligations? Certainly not! And yet, these are some of the attitudes underlying many conversations in the business world.

Thank you for adding your comment to this conversation! Wouldn't it be great to check gender at the door?! The tough part is taking the time to examine our own beliefs about gender and what keeps us from removing these lenses. Well worth the effort and it will eliminate distractions when men and women are at the table together.
