Hi Nick.

When Jerry & George pitched their idea of a "show about nothing" to NBC, Mr.Dalrimple asked George: "Why am I watching it?",

George said: "Because it's on TV!".

Dalrimple replied: "Not yet!"

There's a lot of content on TV some find "wonderful" that others (me) find "crappy". Quality of content is very subjective - much of it (that which matters) exists in the eye of the beholder.

Though I agree with your basic idea, I find shoddy video production badly in need of intensive scrutiny - or a total re-think - before it's released. Even if the actual content is OK, if the presentation is lousy it's a real turn off. If it looks like a cheapie video-cam on a tripod in your kitchen, that's not very conducive to me wanting to fork over large amounts of cash for what you're selling. The audio better be more than just passable, too - I've seen some shaky videos with really bad audio problems that were inadvisedly released anyway. Sometimes below average content looks better because it's presented professionally - till you digest it.

I'm going to add that maybe small business people should take a lesson from the 19-year-old kid in a garage band down the street. They try to get it right - they read how it's been done, and emulate it. They don't buy the world's cheapest equipment & slap their recorded material together like many business videos I've seen. (Maybe 13-year-olds settle for the cheap-ass equipment because that's all Mom & Dad will spring for, but not when they're a few years older.) They at least try to get it right - they try to look & sound professional. Oddly, they'd be embarrassed if their band was filmed like some business videos I've seen - they couldn't live with the results, and they'd try again till they got better at it before letting anyone else see it. How can we let a 19-year-old kid beat a 40+year-old businessman at quality of presentation? Because "we" don't care as long as there is a picture & sound - no matter how bad. i.e. "It's the message"
