If you haven’t noticed, social media has changed the rules of customer engagement. Instead of writing that carefully crafted marketing brochure and selling ads and other forms of interrupt marketing, you need to be engaging more directly with your customers.

You have to use caution when using social media, though. It requires significant investment of time and effort. Just having a presence on Facebook or twitter is not going to help. If you are not prepared and committed it's probably better to stay away from social media.
