We all love free things, but I wonder, how often are free eBook's even read? Do they just get downloaded and then forgotten or do you take the time to read it?

I actually read a great story, I think in USA Today, a month or two ago. I just tried to find it but to no avail. The premise was indeed that everyone is writing them but nobody is reading them. In general, I don't...in most cases, they just seem like a bunch of blog articles cutted and pasted into a "Book."
I think e-books, mostly the free type, are indicative of most self-published material. If it was really a great work, a publisher somewhere would bite and it would be published instead of self-published.
I also think when something is free, psychologically it holds little value.
