Possibly the most important aspect of giving a positive presentation has to do with understanding your audience, as you say. So perhaps the issue here isn't so much being prepared to communicate with a single group that spans a wide variety of cultures, but rather understanding more precisely the culture or cultures of the audience you are addressing at the moment.

I believe the most important aspect in developing a presentation, brochure, article or any sort of collateral is setting objectives. The author needs to clearly define what they hope to achieve.
