From one angle, it's not how you measure but what you decide to measure that's most important.

I completely agree that you should focus on just a few, but important metrics.

However, I think that high "conversation rate" (a term coined by Avinash Kaushik in his book Web Analytics 2.0, which means how many comments per post you get in your blog) is also important.

You want your visitors to be engaged with your blog by commenting (of course, we don't count spam comments here).
