Attempting to crack the SEO code in my opinion is on of the biggest tail chasers in the Internet marketing industry. Round and around, and around we go, where we stop…. no one knows!

I’ve been involved with internet marketing for the past 7 years and I’ve learned a great deal about the art of online marketing, especially SEO. I was once a SEO fiend too… giving all of my backlinking praises to the royal Google fanny.

Along the way I’ve gotten some bruises, fell down and scrapped my knees a few times but I’ve learned some hard lessons. So I’ve decided to let you in on my love hate relationship with SEO and share how I’ve recovered from my SEO addiction.

Since I've let go of SEO and really started writing in my own voice and for my readers, my engagement on my blog has skyrocketed

Hi Ti,

A really important thing to remember is that you are creating your content for readers not algorithms. Sure those algorithms have to do with how (or if) readers eventually find your post. But with social media they are no longer the only means of discovering content on the Web anyway. Add to this the fact that if readers do find content written specifically to catch a search engine's attention and spun into numerous posts, nonsensical except for the keywords they contain, they aren't likely to stay long to read such drivel and certainly won't be back again. No quality content means no readers. That's one thing a thousand Google updates are unlikely to change.

I absolutely agree! Since I've let go of SEO and really started writing in my own voice and for my readers, my engagement on my blog has skyrocketed! Not that I wrote uncomprehendable posts before, but they were no were near as exciting to read - more like reading an essay rather than a blog post.

I love that I'm able to truly let my personality shine through in my writing and I'll attract a community of people that really like me and my content who will continue to come back to read my content rather than a bunch of search engine one hitters.

Thanks for commenting!

Definitely agree with this. The SEO process restrains me from expressing what I truly want to express. Especially when it comes to the title, even though I already have a great title in mind, I tend to change it in favor of a more SEO friendly headline rather than the awesome title I had in mind. SEO is great but it deprives you of your creativity.

Glad you can relate to my pain! Lol. SEO is certainly a restrained marketing method that I'm just not willing to submit myself to any more. Thanks for the comment!
