This is a bit of a rant and it is funny but there is a serious point. Every web designer out there seems to claim to do SEO these days. We all come across companies daily who thought their designer was going to "SEO" their site. Can you spot an SEO in that crowd? Do you know why you might need to?

Very funny - and oh so true! But we've found there are also lots of web designers/developers who know they don't know SEO and are looking for good SEOs to partner with. When you find one, it makes for a great partnership!

Specialists are a joy. People who understand that they have specific skills, value them and are confident enough to realise that there might be something of worth in what other people do.

All good signs. The big two, though, are not on the list.

1. The designer thinks that setting up meta tags means the site is optimized (which has not been true for over a decade).

2. The designer thinks that just optimizing the site's pages is enough to rank well and get traffic(which is really only the set-up work required before the real heavy lifting begins).

Those certainly are big signs alright. The notion that you can get your site SEO'd just misses so many points.

How does a poor site owner have a chance when notions like those are spread by the professionals giving them advice?
