Cyber attacks on gas, power and water systems are increasing around the world. Israel's solution to the problem is actually the most intelligent I have come across, so far.

Catarina,

Israel also takes this hacking one step further: militarily.

Beginning with Munir Radfa (Iraqi), in the 1960's, Israel has offered the fighter pilots of enemy countries millions of dollars to defect with the latest Soviet fighter jets, along with resettlement. Radfa, considered a hero, now lives with his family, who also snuck out, in the Israeli Red Sea resort of Eilat.

A line of enemy pilots has followed with MiGs and Sukhoi fighter jets. Israel uses the planes to test their own pilots and learn the weaknesses of the enemy planes. The routinely practice dogfights with their new hardware.

In 1982, Israeli pilots went up against their Syrian counterparts in what became known as the Bekaa Valley Turkey-Shoot. During only a few days in June of '82, Israel downed over 80 Syrian Migs. No Israeli planes were lost. Part of the reason: Israel had the enemy planes in its possession and had been practicing against them for years.

I consider it a great extension of hacking!

Smart country! Though I'm biased. It's my home :)

Hi Yoni. I'm so glad you spelled MiG correctly - it's an abbreviation for Mikoyan-Gurevich. So many newspapers spell it "Mig" or "mig" like it's a word.

Here's a cool news clip of a Mig-29 that Israel got it's hands on:

Sorry, it's in Hebrew, but you can still see the plane that got HACKED!

Provocative, as always, Catarina!

2 points:

1- In the event of a Major Conflict, i.e a Nuclear War, there will be no need to worry about cyber warfare - Not because we'll all be dead, because nukes cause EMP: an "electromagnetic pulse" that stops all computer activity in the vicinity.

2- I'm glad it's working out in Israel, but the idea of the gubmen hiring criminals has always sickened me - all the way back to Robert Wagner as Al Mundy in "It Takes a Thief" (TV, Jan '68 - fall '70), a judgment I was able to make when I was still a teen.

p.s. I would always be leery of criminal's loyalty - if they think they can "get over" by hacking, what's to stop them from selling out to the enemy?
