Yes I do believe having a blog does have many distinct advantages, such as helping your customers find you as you've mentioned. The inbound vs the outbound approach, and inbound certainly is favoured in today's market. Providing valuable content to your clients so that they find you, and having them value your advice.

Versus an outbound approach where you're trying to go out and find them such as cold calling.

Fantastic article. I think that it's pretty much mandatory for businesses to be blogging. In today's market it's all about helping your customers to find YOU, rather than you seeking out customers.
