Hi Alex,

Great post. I would agree that quality content on your site should always be the top priority. However, a distinction should be made here between poor quality articles on other sites and high quality content. This is what distinguishes simple spammy articles meant to create inbound links for traffic and rank and high quality content like unique guest posting or interviews on someone else's site which add value and can enhance both your brand and online footprint.

Shawn, I absolutely agree. There are no quick fixes and silver bullets here. One area that people neglect is the outreach portion of solid SEO strategies. That out reach contains the things you mention, contributing guest posts and content on other sites.

I always questioned the logic behind a link wheel. It doesn't make much sense to me. It becomes obvious after a while. Thanks for sharing this!

My pleasure. These link wheels were all the rage three or so years ago and snake oil salesmen still try to pawn it off as a high value and ROI strategy. Avoid using this at all costs.

Guest blogging is probably ONE OF THE BEST ways to build your SEO profile. I'm going to be writing an article about out reach and how to include it (guest blogging) as a central piece to your SEO puzzle.
