For years, eBay espoused an egalitarian view that all of its sellers should be treated equally.
But these days, the online marketplace is increasingly taking an opposite tack by offering discounts to its biggest sellers, hoping to lure more of their business.
The change in tactics, which coincides with efforts to revive the company's growth, is generating intense criticism from small sellers. Many fear that they will be unable to compete and accuse eBay of trying to push them out in favor of major retailers.
