I'm not convinced yet. It seems to me that Pinterest is like Quora last year. It's way overhyped. People pin stuff from my sites but very rarely visitors appear from these pins and likes. On the other hand less hyped image bookmarking sites lead to more traffic and engagement on the same sites.

That's because right now the early adapters are all marketers - all people with their own agenda. Once it gets more popular, the public will follow. Hmm...at least, that's what the script says.

I definitely have seen the value in Pinterest even though I don't have an acct yet. One of my articles on my personal blog has gotten over 15,000 pins and has jumped to my second most popular article in my stats.

The ladies may look at me funny when I tell them I'm on Pinterest, but I see the potential.

Pinterest is definitely a site to watch. What's most important in social media marketing is to remember that the landscape is always changing. I've already heard complaints about Twitter and Facebook, of course. There are always new tool out there so the key is to watch trends and keep an open mind.

Heather - absolutely agree. Pinterest is hot right now, but the real proof in the pudding is if it's hot in a year or two. :)

Thanks for your insights!

I agree with your comment about photographs Niall.

What I found useful in some of the articles linked to in the post were the tips on assuring that your best photos are picked up and offered as the images for folks “pinning” your site on Pinterest.

I have noticed that some of the sites I try to pin have great images, but Pinterest’s “Pin” feature passes them over – perhaps because they are background images.
