The company partnered with its Lenovo Business Application Services Delivery (BASD) team to create the Smart Energy Efficiency Solution (SEES). This innovative platform retrofits commercial buildings and factories with cutting-edge technology designed to enhance HVAC management, ultimately leading to reduced energy waste and significant cost savings.
The SEES implementation at Lenovo’s Beijing headquarters, spanning 350,000 square meters, boasts impressive results. The solution has successfully reduced energy consumption by 34% annually, translating to about $330,000 in savings. “The automated solution provides much improved control over humidity and temperature compared to our previous manual approaches,” Zhou noted. Two of the six on-site engineers can now allocate more time to strategic activities, highlighting the efficiency gains attained from automating energy management.
Small business owners can glean multiple insights from Lenovo’s experience with SEES. First, the use of AI and IoT for smart monitoring allows for predictive modeling. By analyzing energy usage across various working conditions and correlating that with sensor data, SEES can dynamically adjust HVAC settings to optimize energy use. “Combining expected patterns of work at different times of day with weather data allows the solution to determine the most energy-efficient way to achieve our target conditions,” Zhou emphasizes.
Moreover, the benefits extend beyond just energy savings. A more comfortable working environment can lead to increased employee satisfaction, ultimately enhancing productivity. As Zhou mentioned, “Managers are satisfied because the solution meets their objectives, and employees are also happier because the working conditions are more comfortable.”

Additionally, the transition to automated systems may require training, both for facility management teams and staff, to maximize the technology’s benefits.

One of Lenovo’s key suppliers has successfully adopted the solution, achieving a staggering 50% reduction in energy consumption for their HVAC system.
