I'm so lucky to know so many smart folks who leave great comments!

Lyceum--

Yes! The why is key. Otherwise, what's the point?

Teepu--

I think that was my trick answer on this: you can't have one without the other.

Heather--

You're right; it's very chicken and egg.

Susan: And before vision and strategy, you have to ask the "why" question. Why are you in business? For more on this issue, search on Simon Sinek. Vision is something your strive for (and never really get?) and the strategy is laid out after you have painted your vision.

My overall vision is to fight for a Second Renaissance and my strategy is to spread better ideas in the field of business philosophy and social media. During this life journey, I am achieving my values.

I think both are needed for a start up to succeed. Without vision, you wouldn't get anywhere, without strategy, you would probably fail.

Hi Susan,

There are those who argue strategy over vision because strategy and execution are both necessary to get things under way. I suspect that vision and strategy must work together for a really great business, because without vision a business has nowhere to go.
