When my friend’s small business was struggling a while back, I suggested he add some social media marketing initiatives, and his answer was that he was “too busy.” His business has since closed, but his mindset is still out there. According to a recent Harvard Business Review article, only 60% of companies today use social media for marketing, and only 12% of those feel that they are using it effectively.

Great post, Martin.

We too believe that social media play a great role in marketing. That's why, even though we're a B2B online payments company (hardly a fascinating topic among internet users), we have profiles on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr and YouTube :)

Hi Martin,

It's amazing that we're still writing and reading posts on this subject, but, of course, the reason is that it remains so very relevant. Why aren't more people aware of the difference social media can make for their businesses? Who knows? But it's certainly time for them to sit up and pay attention!
