I’m not sure when it happened, but somewhere along the way, owning a business has become part of the American Dream. In fact, MarketWatch suggests:
Some 39 percent of employees hope to own their own business;
More than 50 percentof workers in their 20s who don’t own a business hope to do so in the future;
50 percent of workers in their 30s and 35 percent in their 40s want to start their own business; and
Even 25 percent of workers in their 50s and 17 percent of workers age 60 or older who do not currently own a business want to do so in the future.
Given these numbers, you may well wonder why more people have not started their entrepreneurial journey. Something must be standing in their way.
Is it money? Is it risk? No, I believe the first hurdle to starting a business is the question, “What kind of business should I open?”
