Being a good steward of your time requires an understanding of how to manage all the demands of your business and life, and when to pull back before reaching the deer in the headlights stage of immobility due to overload. As a woman in business, you juggle more demands than men, who don’t have the added roles of mom and/or homemaker.

Warning signs of overload
The number of tasks and commitments keep rising, but there are a finite number of hours in a day. Many women try to accomplish more than is humanly possible, and then berate themselves for failing in this useless endeavor.

Shannon,

Good, practical advice and oh so hard to do! My personal favorite on your list is the one about taking one step at a time to 'eat an elephant'. I've never tasted elephant, but I have tasted the noticeable calming effect when I'm able to block out distractions and focus on my current task, followed by the next task. It's the constant multi-tasking that I find exhausts me and leaves me feeling like I've accomplished nothing at the end of a busy day.

Thanks for the guidance!

I really think watching your commitment level is the key...and the hardest part. Overcommitment is easy to do, and not simply because it's hard to say know. When starting your business, exploring opportunities is a natural reflex as is getting things in your pipeline whether marketing or sales. Throttling back is tough and goes against this instinct...especially in hard times.
