A couple of years ago, my introductory deck of slides on content curation caught the attention of Robin Good. When he promoted it on his Scoop.it page, I felt like a kid who had just received a top prize in school.

Good is an exceptional curator for several reasons. He does not just know what he is doing. He is also passionate about curation, cares about his audience, and treats everyone with respect.

Since that highlight, many people have asked me to explain why I am involved in curation. Honestly, I could write a book about it. And maybe one day, I will.

Right now, though, I would like to share five major reasons with you here.

I think viral content buzz is one of the best curator sites in my experience!

Cendrine: We have two definitions of "selflessness" then. My focus is on the self as in the word, ego (I in Latin).

Hello Cendrine,

As I am interested in a rational philosophy, defending rational selfishness, I want to point out that core of selflessness has had tragic consequences during history.

If everyone would be more concerned with the needs (by which standard?) and wishes (by whim or logic?) of everybody else, what will happen with the individual then?

From the Ayn Rand Lexicon:

"Men have been taught that the ego is the synonym of evil, and selflessness the ideal of virtue. But the creator is the egoist in the absolute sense, and the selfless man is the one who does not think, feel, judge or act. These are functions of the self."

I recommend you to read the book, The Fountainhead, and study the character called, Peter Keating.

Best Premises,

Martin

We just have two different definitions of selflessness, Martin. That's all there is to it.

Have a great day!

It is not selfishness to care about people when you are secure enough about yourself. If you cannot accept that premise, that's too bad. :-)

Hi Cendrine,

I think a book is definitely in your future, perhaps on the topic of curation in particular. You certainly have plenty to say on the matter. I believe I speak for many in the BizSugar community when I say that we are all well served by the wonderful content you share.

Cendrine: Thanks for sharing your love for curation. I agree with your reasons for being a curator, but I don't think you should be a "selfless individual." I am a selfish individual who value others work and curation, and I give credits there cred. is due. It is a matter of the trader principle that we talked about during our podcast conversation.

Hello Martin,

Being selfless means "concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one's own" :-)
