Social media is still being looked at as a waste of time by many businesses. Unwilling to take the time to understand how to approach it or to realise it's benefits, it is dismissed as a fad. To their misfortune.

There's a weird obsession with social media being a fad and the question of whether there's any return on investment for the time or money or both spent. Yet businesses continue to spend money on other things with questionable return on investment because they're the kind of thing that businesses are supposed to do. Few businesses ask themselves whether local media advertising or chamber membership are paying off. Or perhaps they are just beginning to. But social media is new so despite success stories they'll continue to doubt.

Hi Shawn. Thanks for the comment. YOu are 100% right. Businesses will continue to spend money on the wrong things because as you say, that's what they've always done and because the definitely believe that social media as a marketing entity will pass. Who on earth do they think will be buying their products in a few years - that's right - the people who live, eat and breathe social media, the under 25 groups!
