Questions work rather well, -as you're demonstrating right now- asking someone to expand on a certain aspect of the article or content.

Also further expanding yourself on a point they brought up in the article, going more in depth on something maybe they didn't cover completely.

Controversy always brings out conversation as well, saying how you would do something differently than mentioned in the article.

Relating to a personal experience on how you implied something in the article and how it benefited you. Further validating their argument.

And compliments obviously are appreciated by writers and are a good way to develop relationships. The more specific the better.
