Twitter's native retweet is the quickest way to share someone else's content, but it's the least effective type of retweet.

The article reveals five reasons why the native RT button isn't effective and it shouldn't be used by marketers (including bloggers).

Adrian: No offense taken. I know about Pam Moore. You don't need to give me more examples! ;) To use a gambling term, I "bet" that the reader of this thread, will appreciate your comments.

Adrian: I know how to use my common sense. Thanks for providing the names, Kim Garst and Jeff Bullas.

1) Re that "common sense" phrase, no offense intended, Martin ;) 2) Pam Moore @PamMktgNut is yet another example. I can give you many examples, but I don't see the point. If you really need them, you can find them yourself ;)

So, could give some examples of marketers that haven't gambled with Twitter, and instead have tracked their tweets?

Martin, examples don't prove one point or another. You're on a wrong path. But yes, I can give you examples of power social media influencers that don't use so frequently that RT button: Kim Garst, Jeff Bullas.

I guess you know that some people died at the age of 50 even if they never smoked, while others smoke till their 70s. This doesn't prove that smoking is good for health. Health is more complex than smoking or no smoking.

The same are "success" and "marketing". They are more complex than RTing or not using that button.

In addition, the successful people make mistakes too. That's why the examples "technique" is wrong and it doesn't prove anything.

Coming back to marketing, some famous people send lame subject lines, but people still open their emails. Is "lame subject line marketing" something good?

The branding & the success offset the mistakes. That's why I said that you're on a wrong path. Examples don't prove anything. You don't really need them.

Analyze my reasons from the article instead. Use your common sense, there's nothing wrong in doing it ;) If you think my reasons are wrong, use that RT button. Is that simple. That's fine with me :)

Adrian: I thought you worked for Twitter *joke*! ;) Do you have an example by a small business marketer, using the retweet feature in a successful way?

It depends on what you understand by "successful way".

If you use that button, the tracking is altered. Marketing without tracking (or without proper tracking) is gambling ;)

Now... what can I say? Some people gamble and succeed, other people gamble and lose/fail. Real marketing isn't gambling though :)

Adrian: Thanks for sharing this information on Twitter's native RT button. I am using it pretty often nowadays, due to the fact that it is easy to do. On my smartphone I can use the retweet button together with a quote and addendum to the tweet.

Do you know why Twitter has pushed the native retweet button?

Hi Martin, I don't work for Twitter, so I don't know why it has that button in place instead of another. I can only guess...

My guess is that Twitter isn't designed as a social network for marketers.

It makes sense, doesn't it?

Retweeting using that button is absolutely fine if you're not a marketer. Even if you're a marketer, retweeting tweets without links is also absolutely fine ;)
