I've learned things from success but probably even more from failure. One of the greatest lessons, especially in recent years, is the need to trust instincts and be careful about following advice that makes little or no sense to you on a gut level. It's bad enough making your own mistakes, but failing because you took advice that never made sense to you simply because everyone else was doing it is a waste of precious time and resources.
