Super post, again!!

It's ironic that most front-line employees are the least educated, empowered, or trained (I am generalising here.) Yet, these people are the knowledge workers, the power workers, the executives in their area of expertise - why do we (on the whole) not spend more energy, time and resources training, empowering and rewarding them?

That was just a thought as I read your post.

And, yes your points on matching skill-sets and ability are very good. Many small and medium businesses could do with a regular review to see if employees happen to shine in areas other than what they were originally hired for. We need to keep on top of this to make the best of the talent we already have in place in our businesses.

Elaine, thanks. I was asked recently to put a seminar together for "knowledge workers" from the standpoint of recruiting them to a region as part of an economic development strategy, understanding that the common use of the term connotes those trained in technical areas - IT, engineering, sciences, biotechnology, etc. I've always seen a different interpretation to the term. I'll be working this perspective more.
