Put yourself in your prospect’s or client’s shoes and look at the big picture. Are your activities in their best interest? Could you be doing something more positive and productive on their behalf? Are you in control of the situation?

I do agree that the best way to know about how someone feels is to put yourself on his shoes therefore, the best way to truly understand your prospects or clients is to put yourself on their shoes that way, you will know where you're failing and how to adjust.
