There are many, many reasons why people lose their focus or desire to accomplish their goals. David Allen, in his Getting Things Done methodology, recommends using the airplane model to ensure we're defining goals at the right level or horizon of focus.

Thanks, Lyceum. Glad the illustration was helpful. I intend to write a lot more on these "horizons of focus" in the near future, along with more of David Allen's "Getting Things Done" methodology - it has helped me a lot over the years.
