A point here in the subtext is that the loyalty demanded by employers and given grudgingly or willingly by employees may be impacted irreversibly. Employees now aware of how fragile even a good employment arrangement can be may be less likely than ever to limit their prospects. This will especially be true amongst employees who didn't manage to hold on to their jobs as they finally re-enter the workforce once the dust has settled.
