We breathe subconsciously throughout the day and never think about the benefits of slowing down and taking a few deep breaths. It's great for the mind, for the nervous system and for reducing stress. As basic as it at first sounds, it's really good advice. I notice that when I'm nervous about something my breathing is sometimes affected, and I'm mid-50's. Specifically it's when I'm playing a musical passage I know is difficult - my subconscious attempts to sabotage me, but it could just as easily be before an important business meeting.
