A old colleague of mine commented on the text version of this post. He took exception to what I wrote and said, "Talent is an ability that is the result of process and effort."
I think we’re saying the same thing! Actually, I think my old friend just likes to argue. :) What do you think?

No one makes it to the top w/o hard work - but I believe some people are innately talented - they just have a MUCH better knack or aptitude than most people. I've seen some of the documentation on the 10,000 hour bit - it's impressive (Malcolm Gladwell's life work) - and massive, but nobody will ever convince me that Leonardo or Beethoven were 2 guys who just tried a little harder - put in a few more hours (since we're all limited to 24/day). Innate ability Does exist - to say it doesn't is just as wrong as saying those who became great didn't work their 'arses' off.
