Again a non-sales guy's perspective here. I commented on Doyle's post too here at BizSugar and for the most part agree with it. I think it's possible to have lots of relationships with people and no sales. This isn't to say you should ignore or refuse to have relationships with people who aren't customers but spending huge amounts of time with the guy who doesn't want your product seems inefficient and trying to win someone over who doesn't seem to value what you do seems just a bit manipulative, and in many cases a waste of time. Why not spend the time trying to find those who want what you have to offer...and focus on building relationships with them based on the quality of experience you provide after the sale?
