The term "business development" means different things to different people. For purposes of this article, I will use Scott Pollack's definition of business development from his article in Forbes: Business development is the creation of long-term value for an organization from customers, markets, and relationships.
This definition encompasses marketing, sales, branding and thought leadership in relationship to creating "long-term value" for an organization. It can be thought of the overarching efforts of your company to generate revenue and improve your reputation as an industry leader.
