Yowza for #2 - more advertising than content. I've seen a blog that regularly has 4 screen-depths of ads on the top, 1 screen-depth in the middle between paragraphs, and 1 screen-depth on the bottom before the "about the author" block. That's not counting the side-bar ads, which run the full length. I get a feeling the intent is 95% mercenary, 5% informational/instructional/helpful. I zoom past the ads for the info.
