I agree with David that Gravatars are important here on Biz Sugar. When I'm in a hurry, I scan for posts by people I recognize and skip over the generic avatars. So, people who I recognize have a better chance that I'll check out their articles and vote.

Avatars are sooooo important. Even here on BizSugar, I tend to gloss over any post with a default avatar. I don`t read the headlines (and sometimes miss some good stuff). I don't read the submitter`s name (and sometimes miss some good friends). The avatar makes it "real".
