I'm wondering if there is a magic "size" of receivables that makes this a smart strategy. We looked into it early (when receivables are small and cash is often the most important). It seemed inefficient when we needed it most. Interesting proposition and big need for small businesses though.

Yeah, it's the same over here and like you mentioned, it chases a lot of business owners away from considering this as an option to generate cash. Do shop around if your business requires such services and read a lot (learn from an individual with experience and background in finance if possible) about how it works before entering into a deal with them.
